ASEMIC SERIES

During the pandemic of 2020, I was haunted by words from the various countries and languages I have experienced. Simultaneously, the tumult and uncertainty of the times drained my inspiration in so far as visual arts is concerned. This Series is born from my contention with that maelstrom. The original piece is cartographic notations in spray enamel, oil bars, charcoal, glue, and watercolor upon the last remaining stretched canvas my late father prepared in the 80s. It is a receptacle for three years of feelings I had no other way to express. Recently, I discovered the genre for this manner of work is Asemic Writing. Now, in my ongoing Asemic Series I repurpose the original and through photography, print transfer, and the incorporation of my garden entwine an amalgam of iconography to express my reaction to aging in relation to my own life and current world events.
