Portraiture
Portrait work is inseparably woven into both the foundations of Peter’s development as an artist and the horizon towards which his artistic aims forever voyage. Peter’s first true mentor was Ukrainian born immigrant to America, Sergei Bongart. Under Bongart, Peter’s exploration of both portraiture and color began. This exploration would lead him to studying the Fayum Portrait work of Imperial Roman Egypt. Rich Encaustic wax paintings that worked their way from Egypt through to Ethiopia and from the Ethiopian Orthodox Churches, to Greece and Russia.
